and whosoever shall be found.....without the soul for getting down.....
So ends one of my favorite Halloween songs. I think I was twelve when Michael Jackson's Thriller debuted on December 2, 1983 on MTV. It's amazing that almost 25 years later, I can still feel a thrill when I hear Vincent Price's laugh at the end. I can still see the dancing zombie number and the evil yellow eyes that Michael flashes in the last scene.
Here are my other Halloween picks:
FRANKENSTEIN - by the Edgar Winter Group. Of course, my favorite version was performed by Phish on Halloween 1996 at the Omni in Atlanta.
HIGHWAY TO HELL - that's right, AC/DC.
SUPERSTITION - Stevie Wonder
FIRE WOMAN - the Cult
WEREWOLVES OF LONDON - Warren Zevon

NCSU at ECU
This weekend was great. Neal and I hit the road on Saturday for a football game in Greenville. The Pirates hosted the Wolfpack at Dowdy-Ficklen stadium on Neal's birthday! His present was a 34-20 Wolfpack win.
Jack Warren, Me and Neal
Jack Warren, Me and Neal
We arrived in Greenville around noon and joined Jack Warren, Ted & Shelley Melton, Tim & Lori Melton, Bucky, Kenny, Shannen and countless other Pirates for a pig-pickin' at the stadium's front door. I thought the parking lots at Carter-Finley were red....but East Carolina takes it to another level! Here are the top ten moments we witnessed:
10 - The Privateers Deck
9 - Celebrating First Down on Kickoff
8 - Jack leaving the stadium in the first quarter.
7 - "My tickets were in the middle of all the State fans!"
6 - Neal gets his picture taken with all the cheerleaders (see previous post)
5 - Having the band's rendition of the National Anthem drowned out by Friends in Low Places on the loudspeaker.
4 - Jack leaving the stadium (again) in the fourth quarter.
3 - First Down. Pirates. AAARGH!
2 - It's 3rd and 4 - "GO FOR IT" (from a male student behind us)
1 - "CATCH IT IN THE AIR!!" (from the same student)

Shoes, Glorious Shoes
Shoes. Forget music. Forget love. Aren't shoes the universal language? Just yesterday on Oprah, Jessica Seinfeld could not express her gratitude with mere words. She could not thank Ms. Winfrey - who helped launch Jessica's Deceptively Delicious cookbook last week - with a note. Or a song. Not a hug or a kiss.
So she thanked her with shoes. Twenty pairs.
So here are my shoes du jour. I don't own them. They own me. I walk where they walk. I dance where they dance. I strut where they strut. Follow us!
